The McCain campaign is using an all of the above strategy to hit Barack Obama hard on his character and judment, before tonight’s presidential townhall.
From Human Events:
Republican Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin turned up the heat again on the campaign stump Monday, expanding on Barack Obama’s relationship with domestic terrorist William Ayers of the Weather Underground. Gov. Palin at a Florida rally Monday said, “… there’s even more to the story. Barack Obama says that Ayers was just someone in the neighborhood, but that’s less than truthful. His own top adviser said that they were quote, ‘certainly friendly.’ In fact, Obama held one of his first meetings of his political career in Bill Ayers living room.” (Full Palin Speech Transcript)
CNN’s John Roberts had the Obama campaign’s quick response, “In 1995, William Ayers held kind of a get-to-know you event at his place where he was introducing Barack Obama to the political culture there in Chicago when he was running for the State Senate for the first time. David Axelrod said that at that meeting Senator Obama was not aware of Ayers’ radical background.”
Gov. Palin fired back at her next speech later in the day. “It was only a few months ago that Barack was saying that Ayers was just a guy in my neighborhood. But, wait a minute, he didn’t know a few months ago that he had launched his political career in the living room of a domestic terrorist?” Palin remarked to thunderous cheers from the crowd.
The second presidential debate will be a towhall forum, John McCain’s favorite platform for talking straight to the American people. Obama doesn’t know what he’s getting into. Sure, McCain might not look like a cool, young, celebrity; but he’s certainly ready to lead—let’s hope he can show it.
